Analyzing the Adenoma-Carcinoma sequence in Colorectal Cancer

Principal Investigators: Dr. Maza Itay

Our research is focused on the role of metabolic and epigenetic dynamics in gastrointestinal malignancy carcinogenesis, and colorectal cancer in particular. We attempt to map and integrate methylation alterations and metabolome dynamics with clinical and pathological milestones of the adenoma-carcinoma sequence in colorectal cancer. Thereby, we aim to develop prognostic biomarkers and early cancer diagnostic methods for colorectal cancer screening

Dr. Maza Itay

Dr Itay Maza M.D Ph.D is a graduate of the Bruce Rappaport faculty of medicine, Israel Institute of Technology - Technion. He trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa.

Dr Maza's practice specializes in the diagnosis and surveillance of high risk families for genetic gastrointestinal malignancies. His other fields of practice include small and large bowel video capsule endoscopy and deep enteroscopy.

Dr Maza earned his Ph.D in molecular genetics at the Weizmann Institute of Science. His research interests include colorectal cancer tumor epigenetic heterogeneity and metabolome dynamics.
He is a senior attending physician in the Gastroenterology unit at the Rambam Medical Center.
