Clinical Trials Unit at Rambam
Rambam’s Clinical Trials Unit facilitates and supports all phases of medical research throughout the Rambam Health Care Center ecosystem. In addition to conducting Early Phase clinical trials, the Clinical Trials Unit provides comprehensive services to potential and active research projects throughout the hospital, from ideation through successful completion. Approximately 2,000 research projects are conducted at Rambam at any given time, with an average of almost 40 new projects joining every month. Around 50% have commercial applications.
First and foremost, the Clinical Trials Unit is committed to helping researchers begin their research projects as quickly as possible and as efficiently as possible. The Unit is headed by Dr. Avivit Peer, and its staff consists of experts in the various fields relevant to initiating research projects, including regulatory, legal, logistical, budgetary and financing aspects. The team of experts helps researchers obtain the approval of the Helsinki Committee and of the hospital director, as well as overcoming other challenges such as obtaining financing.
Rambam is one of the top hospitals in Israel and one of the largest, with 36 departments and 1,000 beds serving a diverse population throughout the country’s northern region. It is a teaching and research hospital with a highly skilled medical staff that includes specialists in a wide range of disciplines.
“The fact that we are located in Haifa is a big advantage. We collaborate closely with the Technion, the University of Haifa and many Haifa-based tech companies and incubators, as well as with Rambam MedTech Ltd., Rambam’s technology transfer office,” says Dr. Peer, adding that the Clinical Trials Unit enjoys access to a high number of healthy volunteers from the local academic and high-tech community.
