Department of Internal Medicine B

The Department of Internal Medicine “B” is one of six Internal Medicine Departments in the Division of Medicine. Department residents provide comprehensive and preventive care within the broad and various fields of general internal medicine. In addition, the staff is well trained to treat critically ill patients requiring intensive care.

The department has 32 inpatient beds including 5 beds for intensified care, and 14 rooms, accommodating over 2,100 patients each year of whom the average age is 74, staying an average of 4.5 days.

The department’s vision is to provide an advanced model of autonomic and excellent (clinical practice, teaching and research) internal medicine with an ambulatory internal medicine service and centers for excellence within the department. Among its many achievements, the department has published tens of articles in peer reviewed journals, and has received several competitive grants and many prizes for excellence from the Technion and the hospital.

The senior medical staff has special fields of clinical and research interests including the mechanisms for lung edema clearance; heart failure; respiratory and gastrointestinal tract microbiota; pulmonary hypertension; chronic obstructive lung diseases, and tropical infectious diseases in travelers.
