Department of Internal Medicine A

The Department of Internal Medicine A usually cares for patients referred from the Emergency Medicine Department. These patients suffer from a wide range of diseases, primarily related to the heart, infection, blood problems, the lungs, and intestines. The department has isolation rooms to treat and follow immunocompromised patients mainly referred from the hemato-oncology clinic. The department also maintains an Intensive Care Unit treating patients in need of mechanical ventilation.

The department works in cooperation with the consulting departments, and participates in discussions regarding the medical conditions of its patients. Extensive academic activities take place within the department, including clinical meetings, medical imaging meetings, pathology meetings and a Journal Club. The department is also active in conducting clinical research dealing with infectious diseases.

The department has an active follow-up clinic for discharged patients.
