The Department of Social Work provides dedicated, professional assistance to patients and their families, to help them cope with their illness during or after hospitalization. The department’s social workers have a major role in developing a discharge plan that meets patient needs, ensuring their well-being while maintaining a functional level and quality of life that is as high as possible. The social workers also provide professional help in cases of trauma, crisis and family violence. In such cases the department’s social workers are on call around the clock.
Department services are provided to civilians and military personnel. Group sessions are also offered in a number of hospital departments to help support patients coping with specific illnesses and the treatments they must undergo. Psycho-social treatment for individuals, families, and groups is offered to patients in the adult and pediatric oncology departments.
