Nephrology Hub

The Center for Kidney Disease Research is an interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to elucidating the molecular, cellular, genetic, and translational mechanisms that underlie kidney disease across the human lifespan.
The center integrates complementary areas of expertise spanning pediatric rare nephropathies, APOL1-associated kidney disease, podocyte biology, diabetic kidney disease, and chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression, with the overarching objective of advancing mechanistic understanding and improving translational relevance in nephrology research.
Kidney disease represents a major and growing global health burden, yet the biological processes governing disease susceptibility, phenotypic variability, and progression remain incompletely understood.

The Center for Kidney Disease Research is an interdisciplinary research hub dedicated to elucidating the molecular, cellular, genetic, and translational mechanisms that underlie kidney disease across the human lifespan.

Kidney disease represents a major and growing global health burden, yet the biological processes governing disease susceptibility, phenotypic variability, and progression remain incompletely understood.

The Center addresses this challenge through a research framework that combines mechanistic biology with human disease investigation, integrating experimental systems, patient-derived data, genomics, and population-level analyses.

The Center maintains a strongly translational orientation through close integration with clinical nephrology programs and international collaborative networks. We leverage diverse patient cohorts, advanced genomic approaches, and mechanistic experimental models to establish biologically meaningful connections between molecular discovery and human disease.

The Center encompasses three different, yet complementary, research labs and therefore provides a unique platform for studying renal disease across developmental and pathological contexts.

Translational research is a key approach to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical practice. It involves the application of scientific knowledge and technology to develop new treatments and therapies for various diseases. In the field of nephrology, translational research can help in identifying new therapeutic  targets, developing innovative treatment approaches, and improving patient outcomes. A nephrology translational research hub is a specialized center that brings together researchers, clinicians, and industry experts to collaborate on the development of new therapies for kidney disease. The hub serves as a platform for sharing knowledge and expertise, facilitating research collaborations, and accelerating the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice.
