Mrs. Herta and Mr. Paul Amir
Rambam Health Care Campus is honored to confer the 2014 Rambam Award upon Mrs. Herta and Mr. Paul Amir in recognition of their business acumen, leadership in the Los Angeles Jewish community, with great esteem for their extraordinary philanthropic contributions to the arts and education, and in appreciation and gratitude for establishing the Pediatric Cardiology Department in the Ruth Rappaport Children's Hospital at Rambam Health Care Campus.
Born in Slovakia, Paul Amir survived the Holocaust and immigrated to Palestine in 1946, landing in Haifa. With the outbreak of Israel’s War of Independence, he was part of a group primarily from the Haifa region, sent to settle the Galilean Kibbutz Yechiam. Paul lived there until 1960, when he moved to the United States. There he married Herta, and together they established Amir Development, a real estate company. Herta and Paul founded an international foundation that helps support educational and cultural institutions worldwide—including Israel, and particularly Haifa, which holds a special place in Paul’s heart. Their impact on Israel’s people cannot be underestimated. Their altruism is inspiring and is educating a new generation, bringing healing to children’s hearts.
In acknowledgement of all the aforesaid, the Prize Committee has found Mrs. Herta and Mr. Paul Amir deserving of the 2014 Rambam Award.
