About Us

Welcome to the Gastroenterology Research Lab, situated within the Gastroenterology Department at Rambam Health Care Campus. Our research focuses on the complex interactions between nutrition, the microbiome, and the host, with a specific emphasis on the small intestine.

Our Story

Through translational science, we aim to unravel the intricate relationships between these entities to better understand their role in health and disease. We conduct interventional and observational clinical studies and collect patient samples complemented by in vitro and in vivo studies.

We use a variety of experimental models, including intestinal organoids, cell lines, and microbiome community cultures. We have a special interest in gastrointestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and altered nutritional states, including undernutrition and overweight/obesity.

To address questions related to these diseases, we have a diverse team including physicians, biologists, nutritionists, and microbiologists.

Our Vision

Our vision is to advance the understanding of gastrointestinal health through integrative research on nutrition, the microbiome, and host interactions, and to translate these insights into improved patient care.

We sincerely thank the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust for their generous and continued support of our research programs. This support enables the development of innovative, multidisciplinary approaches in microbiome and gastrointestinal research.
