The Rambam Health Care Campus Award for the year 2010 is granted to the Israel Prize recipient, Rabbi Elimelech Firer, for his special contribution and enormous vigor, devoted entirely to the mutual aid society and towards offering assistance to thousands of needy individuals who contact him incessantly, day and night, seeking good advice and a recommendation in the various fields of medicine.
The “Ezra La’ Marpeh” (“Assistance to the Needy”) assistance organization established by Rabbi Firer more than 30 years ago has been, ever since, an address available to anyone in all the fields of medicine, and for all those seeking his advice and opinion.
Although he never acquired formal education in the field of medicine, Rabbi Firer is widely regarded as more knowledgeable than many of the best doctors.
Rabbi Firer’s wide range of activity is exemplary to the love of humans, to the kind attitude towards any individual contacting him, without any distinction based on age, race, gender or religion, while exerting endless devotion, patience, generosity, kindness, humbleness and modesty. While engaging in this activity and in his devotion to thousands to patients and their relatives, Rabbi Firer perpetuates the spirit of the Rambam and his conception on the essence of assistance to patients in need of support.
On the basis of all the aforementioned Rabbi Elimelech Firer has been found eligible for the 2010 Rambam Award.
