The Rambam Health Care Campus Award for the year 2010 is granted to Mrs. Ruth Rappaport, whose name, and the name of her late husband, Mr. Baruch Rappaport, of blessed memory, are strongly linked to the Rambam Health Care Campus which includes the Faculty of Medicine, the Rappaport Research Institute, and the Rambam Medical Center.
Ruth and Baruch Rappaport left a significant mark on medicine as a whole and on medical research in particular both in Israel and around the world, and first and foremost in their native city of Haifa. Their vision and belief to transform the city of Haifa into an important site in which a faculty of medicine is founded that should strive to reach the highest standards, and to develop here a medical research institute renowned worldwide, were fully accomplished.
The faculty bearing the name of Ruth and Baruch Rappaport has become a well-known and leading establishment worldwide. Baruch Rappaport, of blessed memory, predicted that Professor Abraham Hershko and Professor Aaron Ciechanover would be awarded the Nobel Prize, and the Rappaport Institute holds huge achievements whose effects make themselves gradually noticeable around the world.

In addition to all the aforementioned, Ruth and Baruch Rappaport were consistently engaged in donating as a way of life, joining the most prominent Israeli philanthropists active in other areas in promoting both the cultural and artistic life in Haifa and elsewhere in the country. In the course of the Second Lebanon War, Ruth and Baruch Rappaport went out of their way to strengthen the links between the academic and the research world, the medical education system and the Rambam Medical Cenetr, committing to establish the most modern and state of the art Children’s Hospital named after Ruth Rappaport. The building project of this children’s hospital has already begun, and it is expected to become an integral part of the Rambam Health Care Campus within a few years, for the sake of all children. In their vision, Ruth and Baruch Rappaport saw this center expanding after the achievement of peace in the Middle East, thus offering its services to people of all nations in our area. All we need to do now is to complement and fulfill this vision too.

Based on all the aforementioned, Mrs. Ruth Rappaport was found eligible for the 2010 Rambam Award.
