Rambam Health Care Campus is proud and honored to bestow the 2015 Rambam Award upon Mr. Shimon Peres, former President and Prime Minister of the State of Israel, in recognition of his immeasurable contribution to the formation and growth of this nation, and dedication to the wellbeing of all its citizens.
Shimon Peres was born in Poland in 1923 and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1934. As a young man he joined the pre-state Haganah movement, which marked the beginning of his lifelong and passionate commitment to defending the Jewish State.
With the establishment of the State of Israel, Peres was selected by then Prime Minister David Ben Gurion to head the Israeli Navy. Peres eventually migrated from the military to the political sphere, where he has fulfilled an extraordinary career, spanning terms as Knesset Member, Minister, Prime Minister and President.
In 1994, Peres, along with Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts towards resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In 2012, he was awarded the U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom. Ever dedicated to promoting regional coexistence, Peres founded the Peres Center for Peace, empowering the populations of this region to be actively engaged in peacebuilding.
Throughout his long and highly eventful political life, Peres has consistently striven to navigate Israel towards peace and prosperity within the region and the global community.
In acknowledgement of all the aforesaid, the Prize Committee has found Mr. Shimon Peres deserving of the 2015 Rambam Award.
