Prof. Howard (Chaim) Ceder
Rambam Health Care Campus is honored to confer the 2014 Rambam Award upon Professor Howard (Chaim) Cedar in recognition of his accomplishments in medicine and in science, to the benefit of humanity, with great esteem for his multidisciplinary expertise, and in appreciation for his commitment to medical research—exemplified by his dedication to Rambam Health Care Campus and the Clinical Research Institute at Rambam (CRIR).
Born in New York in 1943, Prof. Cedar received his BSc in Mathematics from MIT. In 1970 he graduated from New York University (NYU) with an MD and PhD in microbiology. His postdoctoral research was conducted at NYU and the National Institutes of Health with an emphasis on Public Health Service. Professor Cedar immigrated to Israel in 1973 and joined the faculty of the Hebrew University, becoming a full professor in 1981. Since then he has received multiple awards including the Israel Prize (1999), the Wolf Prize in Medicine (2008), and the Rothschild Price (2012). A member of the Israel Academy of Sciences since 2003, Professor Cedar heads the scientific advisory board at Rambam Health Care Campus and the CRIR. In this capacity, his leadership, expertise, and knowledge have been invaluable toward the advancement of research at Rambam, for the benefit of humankind.
In acknowledgement of all the aforesaid, the Prize Committee has found Professor Howard (Chaim) Cedar deserving of the 2014 Rambam Award.
