Rambam Health Care Campus particpated in a University of Haifa ceremony in Toronto this week, honoring cancer researcher, Dr. Michael Baker, with an honorary PhD.

A large biking event attended by more than 80 cyclists – including Israel’s ambassador to Australia, Mr. Mark Sofer – took place last week in the Melbourne area of Australia.

Good news for Israel’s north: The Unit of Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Rambam, one of the leading units in its field, recently received a substantial gift to improve its hospitalization and treatment conditions. Behind this exceptional contribution stands successful businessman Dr. Avi Katz, a former resident of Haifa who chose to share part of his success with the local residents.

The use of new technology combining optical navigation, computer processing, and special positioning sensors used airplanes for space orientation recently entered the operating room at Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa. The surgical procedure, which has been carried out to date approximately 50 times globally, was first performed in Israel during hip replacement surgery with the help of Swiss development which, according to specialists, can significantly improve surgical accuracy and results.

On October 11, 2018 a memorandum of understanding was signed for cooperation between Rambam Health Care Campus and the Global Center for Medical Innovation (GCMI) at Georgia’s Institute of Technology at a special ceremony held in Atlanta, Georgia. The outcome of this partnership will be a medical technology incubator for Israeli-based companies. This cooperative effort was made possible thanks to the assistance of the Israeli consulate in the southeastern United States and the America-Israel Chamber of Commerce (CONEX).

Last week a 16-year-old girl was rushed to Rambam Health Care Campus for blood poisoning—the result of a “fun” evening with friends smoking a hookah. Thankfully she was successfully treated in a barometric pressure chamber.

With the start of the Jewish New Year, this month also marks the start of a new construction boom at Rambam Health Care Campus. Starting it off is completion of a new Radiation Therapy Wing of the Joseph Fishman Oncology Center. Construction is also in full swing for the new Eyal Ofer Heart Hospital and will commence shortly on the Helmsley Health Discovery Tower.

Isaac Herzog, Chairman of The Jewish Agency for Israel, Isaac (Bougie) Herzog, made a working visit to Rambam Health Care Campus in Haifa on Sunday, September 2.

For the first time in Israel, Rambam inaugurated a psychological trauma unit in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, expanding the basket of health treatments for the northern population. Services include identifying trauma victims in the Emergency Room and treating them during and after hospitalization to strengthen their resilience to emergency situations.

Drinking pomegranate juice, the kind found in any supermarket, could reduce the risk of embryos developing brain damage, according to a new joint study by researchers from Rambam Health Care Campus and the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, published in the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

Rambam physicians discover that acute kidney injury is a common complication of near drownings, due to lack of oxygen and the fight-or-flight response. Their research points to men being at highest risk for this complication.
