Rambam Health Care Campus Held a Chemical Attack Drill
Haifa’s Rambam Health Care Campus held a drill Thursday simulating a scenario in which the Haifa metropolitan area would be under attack by missiles carrying chemical warheads.

The exercise, in cooperation with the Israel Defense Forces Home Front Command and various government ministries, took place in the middle of the workday with the participation of emergency-trained hospital personnel and soldiers. Normal hospital activities were not disrupted.
One floor in the underground parking lot was converted into an underground hospital. The 2000-bed Sammy Ofer Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital), the largest and most advanced of its kind in the world (a 1,500 space parking lot in peacetime that seamlessly converts to an advanced treatment hospital during national emergencies within 72 hours) is prepared to treat hundreds of wounded, including persons exposed to hazardous chemical substances.
“As a Level 1 trauma center and the largest hospital in the country’s northern region, we have a responsibility to provide treatment to soldiers and civilians in times of emergency,” said Rambam director Prof. Rafael Beyar. “The situation around us forces us to practice different scenarios and prepare ourselves for a reality that can occur. I hope we will never have to face the test of reality, but we are prepared for any eventuality.”
