Rambam Health Care Campus is proud and honored to bestow the 2019 Rambam Award upon Professor Lloyd B. Minor in recognition of his clinical, research, and academic accomplishments, which have impacted medicine in important fields ranging from the diagnosis and treatment of balance disorders to initiatives for pedagogical innovation, and with the highest esteem for his commitment to the advancement of international research and medical collaborations, particularly with Rambam Health Care Campus.
Growing up, Professor Minor came to value the importance of individual effort for the benefit of a team, and acceptance, respect, and civility in relationships – all key components of his achievements to this day.
After earning a B.Sc. and M.D. from Brown University, Professor Minor went on to complete residencies in surgery (Duke University) and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery (University of Chicago). He completed a research fellowship in vestibular neurophysiology, also from University of Chicago, as well as in otology and neurotology (EAR Foundation in Nashville, Tennessee).
Committed to clinical research, Professor Minor is an expert in balance and inner ear disorders. He discovered superior canal dehiscence syndrome and developed a surgical procedure to correct and alleviate the condition. He led the development and implementation of an innovative model for cancer research and patient care delivery at Stanford Medicine and has launched an initiative in biomedical data science to harness the power of big data and create a learning health care system. Committed to diversity, he has increased student financial aid and expanded faculty leadership opportunities.
His wife, Dr. Lisa Keamy, has supportively partnered with him in both his professional and family life and they have raised two children, Emily and Samuel.
A scientist, surgeon, and academic leader, Professor Minor is a strong proponent of translational research, pedagogical innovation, and proactive personalized healthcare. A past provost and senior vice president for academic affairs of The Johns Hopkins University, today Professor Minor serves as dean of the Stanford
University School of Medicine. Professor Minor’s visionary leadership is leveraging Stanford’s strengths in scientific discovery to purse use of genetic information, big data, and international medical and scientific collaborations, to transform health care.
Professor Minor’s leadership and achievements have impacted medical care worldwide in general, and Rambam Health Care Campus in particular, through a recently established Rambam-Stanford collaborative research agreement. The two institutes are aiming for a transformative impact on clinical care, digital health, big data research, and more.
In acknowledgement of all the aforesaid, the Honorary Awards Committee has found Professor Lloyd B. Minor deserving of the 2019 Rambam Award.
