Rambam Health Care Campus (Rambam) in Haifa, Israel recently opened a cutting-edge obstetric complex, featuring nine delivery rooms, an expanded obstetric emergency unit, and an upgraded maternity department. The new, modern delivery rooms were made possible through a generous donation by Avi Katz, a long-time Rambam supporter in memory of his close friend, Doron Feingold z”l

The recently opened, renovated obstetric complex was facilitated through an investment of 20 million shekels, marking a significant advancement in maternal healthcare for Northern Israel. An upgraded obstetric emergency room, a state-of-the–art renovated maternity department, and the new Doron Feingold Delivery Rooms Unit (Unit) ensures high-quality care for expectant mothers. This comprehensive renovation reflects Rambam’s commitment to enhancing the birth experience through advanced medical technology and improved hospitality services.

Reut Malka (36) was the first to give birth in the new Unit—her son in a fourth and quick delivery helped by midwife Nirit Goldfarb. “It was a wonderful experience,” she says and thanked Goldfarb for her support.

The transformation of the existing delivery rooms was made possible through the generous support of Avi Katz, a longtime friend of Rambam from the United States. Feingold, Katz and Professor Zeev Wiener, director of Rambam’s Division of Gynecology and Obstetrics were all childhood friends.

The Unit features private bathrooms and is equipped with ultra-modern delivery beds, monitors, pain management devices, birthing balls, ergonomic pillows, and comfortable seating for companions. Additionally, smart televisions provide a customizable environment where mothers can play music or access preferred content, creating a soothing atmosphere. One delivery room is dedicated to natural childbirth. The others allow for a range of birthing scenarios including natural childbirth, reaffirming Rambam’s commitment to supporting diverse birthing preferences.

The upgraded obstetric complex also includes an expanded obstetric emergency room with private examination spaces and upgrades to the maternity ward enhancing the hospitalization experience for new mothers.

The project began amid the Swords of Iron War and continued despite regional missile threats, but proceeded as planned. Kobi Bossel, director of Rambam Engineering and Construction, expressed pride in the hospital’s resilience in completing the renovation on schedule.

Professor Weiner emphasized the significance of the entire renovation, stating, “This is an exciting milestone that reflects years of planning and investment. The Doron Feingold Delivery Rooms Unit is a hopeful and joyous space and a fitting tribute to Doron z”l. Every decision in this project was made with the comfort and well-being of mothers in mind, ensuring they receive the best possible care.”

“The last few months have been turbulent, we relocated to other premises during the renovation and then had to transfer patients to the Fortified Underground Emergency Hospital during the war,” says Michal Kranzler, director of nursing, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. “We’re finally home, and what a home!”

With these enhancements, Rambam Health Care Campus continues to set new standards in maternal healthcare, offering an unparalleled birthing experience for families in Northern Israel.
