Rambam Health Care Campus (Rambam) has completed the final phase of relocating its cardiovascular services to the Eyal Ofer Heart Hospital. With the move of the Advanced Heart Failure Center, all major heart services are now united under one roof, strengthening patient care for residents of Northern Israel and beyond.

Early last week, the Eyal Ofer Heart Hospital (EOHH) at Rambam completed its final phase of occupancy, creating one of Israel’s most comprehensive centers for cardiovascular medicine. Bringing together virtually every aspect of heart care under one roof, the impressive eight-story facility provides the residents of Northern Israel with access to advanced clinical services while serving as a hub for research, innovation, and cardiovascular care.

Over the past three years, the Division of Cardiology and the Department of Cardiac Surgery has gradually relocated its services to the state-of-the-art facility replacing pavilions that have served patients since the 1940s.

“Heart failure is a common and complex disease that affects one in four people,” explains Dr. Oren Caspi, director of the Advanced Heart Failure Center and director of the Palti & Perlhagen Center for Research and Innovation in Cardiovascular Medicine. “In recent years, heart failure treatment has undergone a remarkable transformation. At Rambam, we have made it our mission to provide patients across Northern Israel, the rest of the country, and referrals from around the around the world with advanced, comprehensive, innovative, and compassionate care.”

The Heart Failure Center occupies the entire seventh floor—approximately 1,000 square meters (nearly 11,000 square feet)—and includes multidisciplinary outpatient clinics, an advanced ambulatory treatment unit, and, soon, Northern Israel’s first intensive care unit dedicated specifically to heart failure patients.

“This is a significant milestone,” said Rambam Director General Dr. Michal Mekel at the inauguration of the unit. “It marks not only the realization of a vision years in the making but also the establishment of world-class standard in patient care and research.”

The eighth floor will also house the Palti & Perlhagen Center for Research and Innovation in Cardiovascular Medicine, which will strengthen Rambam’s international leadership in cardiovascular science and innovation.

The Palti & Perlhagen Center was established through the generosity of Lennart Perlhagen in tribute to his close friend and business partner at Novocure, Professor Yoram Palti z”l, recipient of the 2022 Israel Prize. Reflecting on their more than two-decade partnership, Perlhagen said that working with Palti was inspiring because of “his innovative thinking and perseverance.”

That spirit of innovation was celebrated during a special conference held at Rambam on June 22, in Palti’s memory. Organized by former Rambam Director General and current President of Rambam’s International Friends Associations, Professor Rafi Beyar, the conference brought together clinical leaders, researchers, and innovators to reflect on Palti’s extraordinary contributions to medicine.

Professor Beyar’s opening lecture – The Long and Winding Road of Medical Inventions, was followed by presentations from leading figures in academia and medical technology, including Professor Ori Sivan, President of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Professor Lior Gepstein, director of both the Division of Cardiology and the Division of Research, Clinical Professor Stavit Allon-Shalev, head of the Technion’s Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, and other distinguished speakers.

The completion of the Eyal Ofer Heart Hospital represents a defining moment in Rambam’s history. By bringing together world-class patient care, groundbreaking research, and medical innovation under one roof, the hospital is helping shape the future of cardiovascular medicine for Northern Israel, the nation, and beyond.
