Dozens of Rambam Health Care Campus nurses took part in a unique “Tetris” challenge demonstrating the cycle of nursing care in the hospital. The trend, which in recent months has become a viral phenomenon on social networks, arrived at Rambam in honor of the Year of the Nurse and Midwife 2020, which began in January.
The year 2020 was announced by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the International Council of Nurses (ICN), Nursing Now, and the United Nations Population Fund (UNPFA) as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, marking the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the famous nurse considered to be the founder of the modern nursing field.
Rambam Health Care Campus, which prides itself in advancing nursing in academia, research, patient care, and devoting considerable resources to the professional development of nurses, has undertaken to present the many aspects of the profession through a particularly complex challenge – the Tetris Challenge.
For many days, and with the investment of dozens of staff members from the nursing and marketing departments, Tetris photographs showing nursing at Rambam were photographed. Each photo reveals the complexity of nursing in the chain of care throughout the medical system: the delivery room, pediatric care, nurse training, care for the elderly, emergency medicine and trauma, resuscitation, the operating room, and a mass-casualty event. The idea was inspired by the famous 1990s game, showing the detailed processes pertaining to each event.
"Nursing in Israel and at Rambam plays a significant role, and without it, the healthcare system cannot exist," says Gila Hyams, Rambam’s Director of Nursing. "In recent years, nurses have made headlines regarding the hardships of hospitalization and personnel shortages, acts of violence and other negative aspects, which is a shame. Nursing is central to the care we provide to patients. At Rambam, nursing is integrated into key work processes, with over 90% of the nurses having academic degrees and engaging in research alongside care, development of protocols, and promoting patient and family wellbeing while in the hospital. The Tetris Challenge was used to show the broader picture of nursing in Israel in general, and at Rambam in particular, a picture that we - the nurses - experience every day."
