Professor Mical Paul, MD, is Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Rambam Health Care Campus and a Full Professor on the research track at the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. She received her MD from the Hebrew University-Hadassah School of Medicine in Jerusalem in 1996, completed her residency in internal medicine at Rabin Medical Center, and subsequently trained in infectious diseases at the same institution.
Professor Paul's clinical and research work focuses on infection epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, hospital-acquired infections, infections in immunocompromised patients, evidence-based medicine, systematic reviews and meta-analysis, and computerized decision-support systems. She has led and collaborated on international randomized trials and observational studies addressing the treatment of severe bacterial infections, particularly infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
She has authored more than 220 peer-reviewed publications and has held major editorial responsibilities, including serving as an editor and guideline editor for Clinical Microbiology and Infection and as an editor with the Cochrane Infectious Diseases Group. Her international professional activities include methodological and advisory work for the World Health Organization and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, particularly in guideline development and the evaluation of antibacterial treatments.
Professor Paul is an ESCMID Fellow, a member of the Technion Senate, and a member of the Israeli National Academy of Science in Medicine. She has received several awards for teaching and professional service and has supervised numerous medical students, residents, and graduate researchers. Her work bridges international clinical care, research, and policy.
