Dr. Michal Mekel is the Deputy Director of Rambam Health Care Campus since 2017, and the Director of its Endocrine Surgery Service.

Dr. Mekel graduated from the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and completed a general surgery residency at Rambam, followed by a clinical and research fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Mekel was the first Endocrine Surgery Fellowship graduate in Israel. She received a Master of Health Administration from the University of Haifa in 2016.

She is responsible for all physician affairs in the hospital, including staff recruitment, medical education, training and development. Dr. Mekel coordinates with the Israeli Scientific Council to ensure the highest level of education of the hospital’s residency programs. As a deputy director of the hospital, Dr. Mekel also manages and directs the day to day medical functions of the hospital and ensures their performance according to the Ministry of Health’s regulations. Together with the executive management, she is also involved in planning the hospital budget and developing medical policies.

Dr. Mekel was the first Endocrine Surgery Fellowship graduate in Israel. She established the Endocrine Surgery service at Rambam and is an active endocrine surgeon in the Division of General Surgery. She has presented her work in national and international meetings and has published her research in peer review journals. Dr. Mekel served as Rambam’s chairwoman of the residency committee from 2013–2017. In 2014 she joined the senior management at Rambam and completed a residency in medical management. Dr. Mekel completed The Wexner Senior Leaders program at the Harvard Kennedy School in 2020, and is currently a member of Inbar Healthcare Management Program.
