Professor Halberthal is a distinguished physician, healthcare leader, and educator whose career has been defined by dedication, resilience, and service.
Miki’s story begins in Bnei Brak, where his family stood out as the only secular household. The Halberthal home, was legendary for its warmth and open doors. Halberthal’s parents were remarkable in their own right and their commitment to community and service left a lasting impression on their children.
In high school, Miki found that saving lives was his passion and volunteered at MADA, something he would do for many years.
During his military service, Halberthal joined the elite ranks of Unit 669, Israel’s renowned tactical search and rescue unit' His time there was cut short by an injury, which became a turning point. Transitioning to the Air Force flight school as a combat

 instructor, where he met Marlene, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. They are the proud parents of four, and are thankful for their amazing grandchildren.
After his military service he studied medicine and received his MD from the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion. He later specialized in pediatric and pediatric critical care at Rambam, before pursuing advanced fellowships in pediatric cardiac critical care in London and Toronto.
While in Toronto, Halberthal was called into the emergency room to treat two small girls injured in a potentially fatal accident. To his dismay, the two were his daughter Hadas and her cousin Lita. Halberthal played a c

ritical role in why both precious girls are alive today by leveraging every aspect of his acquired knowledge to advocate for their lives, when all the other doctors had given up.
Upon his return to Rambam, he founded the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Service. He subsequently joined the hospital’s executive leadership and pursued an MHA at Tel Aviv University. Professor Halberthal has held key positions, including Director of Medical Operations and Deputy Director, and was appointed Director General in 2019. Under his guidance, Rambam has navigated unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and Swords of iron war and operation Rising Lion. Notably, he oversaw the activation of Rambam’s Fortified Unde

rground Emergency Hospital to manage patient overflow during the pandemic and the war—a feat requiring exceptional decision-making abilities and resource management.
Professor Halberthal has spearheaded transformative initiatives that have elevated Rambam’s global standing. These include advancing research and development efforts, overseeing completion of the Joseph Fishman Oncology Center, Eyal Ofer Heart Hospital, the ongoing development of Helmsley Health Discovery Tower and will always be remembered as the one who initiated the Azrieli Foundation Pediatric Rehabilitation Center and the new Division of critical care medicine.

Prof. Halberthal also focused on expanding collaborations and the outreach of Friends of Rambam around the world and especially in Latin America. His visionary, government-approved 2065 master plan ensures that Rambam will continue to thrive as a leader in healthcare innovation for decades to come.

In acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions to medicine, healthcare leadership, and emergency preparedness—both nationally and globally as chairman of the Teaching Center for Trauma, Emergency and Mass Casualties Situations, the leadership of Rambam Health Care Campus has found Clinical Associate Professor Miki Halberthal deserving of the 2025 Rambam Award.
