Director's Message

Dear Friends,

After nearly three decades at Rambam Health Care Campus, I am deeply honored and privileged to lead the professional home in which I have grown. I step into this role with great pride and profound humility.

My journey — as a daughter, a woman, a wife, a mother of three, and a physician — has been guided by values of love and respect for others, professionalism, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence. These values continue to inspire me as I embark on this new and meaningful chapter.

I began my medical training at the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine and completed most of my professional development here at Rambam. In 2009, upon returning from a fellowship in Boston, I became Israel’s first endocrine surgeon and had the privilege of developing the field both at Rambam and nationwide. My managerial journey began in 2013, and in 2017 I was appointed Deputy Director of the hospital — a role through which I came to appreciate the magnitude of responsibility, alongside the dedication, commitment, and deep sense of mission that drive Rambam’s staff across all disciplines.

Throughout its 87 years, Rambam has earned its reputation as a beacon of quality, professionalism, research, and innovation — as well as a leader in education and in training the next generation of caregivers. I am proud to be part of an institution where knowledge, skill, values, and human compassion come together to bring life and healing.
Together with our dedicated staff, I am committed to leading Rambam forward — to meet future challenges, strengthen Israel’s healthcare system, expand our medical services, enhance the experience of our patients and teams, and continue advancing medical knowledge worldwide.

Committed to you,
Dr. Michal Mekel
Chief Executive Officer
Rambam Health Care Campus

History

History

The name “Rambam” was only applied to Rambam Health Care Campus in 1952 However, Rambam’s history pre-dates the modern State of Israel.

Few people know that our history began with the laying of a cornerstone for a small Catholic convent in 1888. That building, “the Stone House,” is still used by Rambam Health Care Campus today. It transitioned from a convent, to an Ottoman military hospital, and back to a convent. The Stone House was later abandoned, and was eventually sold to the State of Israel in 1961. It was renovated and administrative offices and various medical services operate within its walls.
