Professor Danny Koren


Prof. Danny Koren, Ph.D., is Cofounder, Clinical Codirector, and Scientific Director of ZOHAR Clinic.

Prof Koren is a licensed clinical psychologist and Full Professor of clinical psychology in the School of Psychological Sciences at the University of Haifa. He has served as head of the school’s graduate program in clinical science for more than ten years. He obtained his B.A. in psychology and philosophy from Tel Aviv University, and M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Boston University. His Doctoral Dissertation was carried out at Harvard Medical School, where he was later a visiting Associate Professor of Psychology.

His principal area of clinical and research interest is youth mental health, with special emphasis on early detection and intervention in threats to mental resiliency and health. Professor Koren is on the editorial boards of Psychosis (journal of the International Society for Psychosocial approaches to Psychosis and Schizophrenia), Schizophrenia Research: Cognition, and Early Intervention in Psychiatry (journal of the International Association for Early Intervention in Mental Health, and. He was a member of the 2021-2023 Program Committee of the Schizophrenia International Research Society (SIRS).

Since establishing the SHINE clinic, Prof Koren and his team have led pioneering research on positive reframing of the organizing cognitive schema (narrative) of early identification and intervention in high-risk youth mental health, as a means to reduce fear and stigma, and increase help-seeking and hope. His work has been published in high-impact journals, cited over 8000 times, and has informed both scientific discourse and clinical practice. He has mentored numerous graduate students and early-career researchers, many of whom have gone on to successful academic and clinical careers.
