Department of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry

Prof. Machtei is currently the head of the Rambam School of graduate dentistry and chairman of the department of Periodontology. He has earned his DMD degree from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and certificate of postgraduate training in periodontology from Boston University. He served for over a decade as a senior faculty in the department of periodontology at Hadassah School of Dental Medicine in Jerusalem before moving to the department of Oral Biology at the State University of New York at Buffalo were he conducted several large scales epidemiological and treatment studies at the PDCRC. Later, Prof. Machtei moved to Haifa to head the school of graduate dentistry at the RHCC. He is an associate professor at the faculty of medicine at the Technion (Israeli Institute of Technology) in Haifa and a visiting faculty at the Division of Periodontology, Department of oral medicine infection and immunity at Harvard University in Boston.
Prof. Machtei has published over 160 papers in peer review journals in addition to over 160 abstracts. For his publications he won the Earl Robinson award of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Ana Halprin award of the ISOMS and the Deutche Gesellschaft fur Paradontologie innovation award.
His main research focus is on bone regeneration around teeth and implants and the factors associated with periodontal and periimplant disease progression. ​
