Gastroenterology Institute

Dr. Haggai Bar-Yoseph is a senior gastroenterologist and leads the research laboratory of the Department of Gastroenterology at Rambam Health Care Campus. Dr. Bar-Yoseph focuses on the treatment of malnourished and obese patients in Rambam’s nutrition clinic. He is also the clinical leader of the Microbiome Center at Rambam and specializes in fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT).

After receiving his M.D. from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (2012), Dr. Bar-Yoseph completed a residency in internal medicine with honors, followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology, both at Rambam.

Engaged in clinical and basic research, Dr. Bar-Yoseph completed a post-doctorate fellowship (2019) in a microbiology laboratory at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver, Canada, where he studied the intestinal bacteria (microbiome) and the effect of nutrition on it. Dr. Bar-Yoseph is the recipient of several scholarships and competitive grants. He is part of international consortiums, has presented his research at international conferences, and has published over 20 academic papers in leading scientific journals.

Dr. Bar-Yoseph is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. His research focuses on changes in the microbiota community in various disease states and following bacterial manipulation with FMT, body composition and the response to nutritional interventions, and the intestinal environment in gastrointestinal diseases including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

Dr. Bar-Yoseph has received awards for excellence in teaching and for his contribution to medical education from the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine. He is responsible for the clinical nutrition course and supervises students and residents in their research.
