Dr. Milena Pitashny is Head of the Clinical and Research Microbiome Center at Rambam Health Care Campus.

After receiving her M.D. from the National University of Rosario, Argentina, Dr. Pitashny moved to Israel and became a specialist in Clinical Microbiology at Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. She also pursued certification by the American Boards in Medical Microbiology (ABMM).

Dr. Pitashny conducted two postdoctoral fellowships in the United States. One was completed at the department of Immunology and Microbiology, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx where she looked into the pathogenesis of lupus nephritis. The second was at the Texas Children’s Microbiome Center in Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, where she acquired expertise in the field of therapeutic microbiology and microbiome research.

In 2019, Dr. Pitashny established the Clinical and Research Microbiome Center at Rambam, with the vision of expanding the microbiome knowledge to the many fields of medicine in which the microbiome’s function or dysfunction has been shown to be involved.

Dr. Pitashny’s research interests are broad and she is involved in multiple collaborations with researchers at Rambam and abroad. The ultimate goal of the Microbiome Center and Dr. Pitashny’s research is to reduce the impact of disease processes by remodeling the human microbiome and maximizing its therapeutic potential.
