Project Summary
Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) is a breakthrough new modality for cancer treatment with the ability to selectively kill cancer cells with minimal damage to adjacent normal cells. Global interest in CAP to address various therapies is just beginning. The aim of the Nitzoz project was to develop CAP technology with controlled dosage suitable for endoscopy in minimally invasive surgery.
Patent Application
PCT/IL2015/051116; Application filed: November 19, 2014; Natinal Phase filed: May 19, 2017.
Status
Development of the device (OnCAP) began in 2013 as a collaboration between the Applied Cancer
Science Laboratory at Rambam and the Plasma and Pulsed Power Laboratory of the Technion's Physics Department. The OnCAP system was designed with a plasma source inside a narrow flexible tube for use with conventional endoscopes.
During the Nitzoz grant period, a prototype was constructed and animal experiments were conducted. A provisional patent application was filed in the U.S.A. Upon completion of the Nitzoz grant, the project won a $200,000 grant from Kamin R&D of the Israel Innovation Authority. Animal experiments are currently ongoing.
