Benjamin Brenner received his MD from the Technion’s Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine in Haifa, Israel (1981). He trained in Internal Medicine and Hematology at Rambam Health Care Campus (HCC) and completed his post-doctoral research in coagulation at the University of Rochester in 1994.
Director, of the Institute of Hematology and Thrombosis and Hemostasis Unit at Rambam HCC, in Haifa. Professor of Hematology holding the Caster Chair for Leukemia Research, of the Technion’s Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Haifa, Israel. He served as Chairman of the Israeli Society of Thrombosis and Hemostasis (2002-5). His broad research interests over the years have included thrombosis related to cancer, inherited bleeding disorders and their management, mechanisms of thrombosis, women's health issues in thrombosis and hemostasis, as well as clinical studies with new anticoagulants and hemostatic agents. Professor Brenner has been Co-chair of two subcommittees of ISTH (The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis
namely, Women's Health Issues in Thrombosis and Hemostasis) and Perinatal and Pediatric Thrombosis, and he served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis. He is an Associate Editor of Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis and Thrombosis Research.
Professor Brenner’s major focus of interest is women's health issues associated with thrombosis, especially in regard to pregnancy complications in patients with inherited thrombophilias. He has initiated and organized international symposia in the field, notably meetings in Bergamo, Italy (Co-chair) on "Thrombosis and Haemostasis Issues in Cancer," the biannual International Symposium on "Women's Health Issues in Thrombosis and Haemostasis" (Budapest, 2005; Vienna, 2007, Prague, 2009, Berlin, 2011), and the "International Conference on Air Travel and Health" (Eilat, 2006 and 2008). He has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals as well as chapters and books that he initiated and edited, focusing on women's issues, cancer, antithrombotic therapy, and pregnancy. Professor Brenner has contributed to ISTH educational activities during ISTH congresses as well as to ISTH sponsored activities. He is a member of the North American Thrombosis Forum (NATF) International Scientific Advisory Committee and was an invited speaker at the North American Thrombosis Forum (Boston, July 2009) where he made presentation on "Pregnancy and Thrombophilia.
