The Meri & Sol J. Barer Pediatrics B Department in the Ruth Rappaport Children's Hospital cares for the entire range of pediatric conditions in internal medicine, including severe and chronic disorders. This includes diagnosis and treatment of joint diseases, metabolic disorders, gastroenterological diseases and adolescent medicine. The department performs numerous tests, including liver biopsies and joint aspirations, and tests for metabolic diseases.

In the framework of the department's outpatient services, children with specific disorders are treated with biological drugs such as Anti-TNF drugs for Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis, and enzymes for Pompe disease.

Children in the department are cared for by a large multi-disciplinary team that includes, in addition to physicians and nurses, physical and occupational therapists, social workers, and psychologists. All are highly experienced experts in working with children.

The department is involved in a number of leading studies in its field, including new techniques for diagnosing and treating Familial Mediterranean Fever, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis in children, new treatments for inflammation of the joints in children, and search for metabolic disorders.
