Dr. Ofir Ben-Ishay is an Attending Surgeon in the Surgical Oncology, Pancreatic and Hepatobiliary Service of the Department of General Surgery at Rambam Health Care Campus.

Dr. Ben-Ishay graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rome Tor-Vergata in Rome, Italy. He went on to complete his surgical residency at Rambam, and a research fellowship in fetal surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard University in Boston, USA. He completed a short clinical fellowship in pancreatic and hepatobiliary surgery at the University of Heidelberg in Heidelberg, Germany.

At Rambam, Dr. Ben-Ishay is pioneering the field of minimally invasive pancreatic surgery in the hospital. His clinical interests are focused on pancreatic cancer, gastric cancer, hepatobiliary cancers and surgery of soft tissue tumors such as sarcomas. His research activities include new frontiers in pancreatic surgery, acute care surgery, and basic science projects such as models of surgically induced diabetes in small animals and mechanics of cancerous cells.

Dr. Ben-Ishay is involved in the academic activity at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He is an editorial board member in two international scientific journals in the field of surgery and is a reviewer for many journals in a wide variety of surgical fields. Dr. Ben-Ishay has published more than 40 scientific papers in international journals, as well as book chapters.
