Department of Internal Medicine B

Dr. Gidon Berger was born in Haifa in 1972, and graduated from the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion in 2000 (MD). He completed his residency in Internal Medicine (2003-2007) and a fellowship in Pulmonology (2008-2010) at Rambam. From 2011 to 2014, Dr. Berger completed a research fellowship at the Research Laboratory of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at Northwestern University in Chicago in the fields of lung microbiota and acute lung injury. He has served as the Deputy Director of Internal Medicine B at Rambam since 2013.

Dr. Berger has received several prizes over the course of his career, including the Hospital Excellent Employee Award, the Dean’s Awards as the best instructor in medicine for three consecutive times in the last years, the Liniel Award for Clinical Excellence and the Luzzatto Research Award for Applicative Science.
Dr. Berger was also awarded the best young investigator at Rambam in 2007 and 2009 and a grant from the Department of Medicine for basic science in the year 2008.
His research interests are the cellular mechanisms of lung edema clearance, pulmonary hypertension and the lung microbiota. He has published several articles in these fields.
Dr. Berger has broad and diverse teaching experience and ccurrently leads a unique project called 'smart medicine'.
