Gastroenterology Institute

Dr. Matti Waterman is an Attending Physician and Gastroenterologist in the Gastroenterology Institute at Rambam Health Care Campus, and Director of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Service.

Dr. Waterman received his M.D. degree with honors from the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology, and graduated with honors from the residency program in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Rambam in 2007. He also completed a two-year Advanced Fellowship Program in IBD at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto, Canada. Subsequently, he was appointed Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Technion Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Waterman is an author of more than 22 papers and several book chapters in the fields of IBD, capsule endoscopy and gut inflammation and cancer. He serves as Israel's national representative in the European Crohn's and Colitis Organization (ECCO), and was awarded several prizes for excellence in medical teaching and research. Dr. Waterman's main research interests are prognostic factors in IBD; the immune response in IBD; personalized medicine in IBD and capsule endoscopy of the large intestine.
