Professor Michael Mimouni serves as an attending physician and director of the Cornea Unit in the Department of Ophthalmology at Rambam Health Care Campus, and as a clinical associate professor at The Ruth & Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. He graduated with honors from the Sackler Faculty of Medicine, Tel Aviv University, Tel-Aviv, Israel (2013).
During his residency, Professor Mimouni participated in Rambam’s prestigious Leaders research program (Atidim in Hebrew) and was awarded the nationwide Outstanding Resident of the Year award (Israeli Ophthalmologist Society) for his surgical, clinical, and research achievements (2018). Throughout his residency, Professor Mimouni was the recipient of funded observerships from the European Association of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) and the International Association of Refractive Surgery (ISRS).
From 2019–2021, Professor Mimouni pursued a surgical fellowship at the University of Toronto, specializing in corneal transplants, cataract surgery, ocular surface disease, and refractive surgery. This fellowship exposed Professor Mimouni to innovative and advanced surgical techniques. Upon completion of this fellowship, Professor Mimouni received the Outstanding Surgeon of the Year Award.
Currently, Professor Mimouni serves as Chairman of the Israel Cornea Society, a 60-member society under the auspices of the Israeli Ophthalmology Society. In this role, Professor Mimouni heads several multi-center projects and professional meetings in his field.
To date, Professor Mimouni has published over 240 original peer-reviewed studies and serves as editor and reviewer for dozens of professional journals related to his fields of specialization.
An active participant in both national and international conferences in his field, Professor Mimouni is frequently invited to present his work as a guest lecturer. Professor Mimouni is committed to teaching students and residents in ophthalmology, with the goal of shaping the future generation of ophthalmologic medical professionals.
Recently, Professor Mimouni was selected by his colleagues as one of the top specialists of his field by Duns 100 Standard of Achievement.
