Professor Itai Shavit is Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department at Rambam Health Care Campus, and a Clinical Associate Professor at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. In 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, and 2011 he received awards for excellence in teaching, and in 2015 he was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding contribution to teaching of pediatric medicine by the Technion.
Professor Shavit graduated from the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, and completed his residency program in pediatrics at Rambam, followed by a 2.5-year fellowship program in pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) at the Alberta Children's Hospital in Calgary, Canada.
Professor Shavit is the chair of the Israeli Society for PEM. He is a certified director of the Advanced-Pediatric-Life-Support (APLS) course of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the director of the Pediatric Sedation Course for non-anesthesiologists at the Israel Center for Medical Simulation. His research focuses on Procedural Sedation and Analgesia, Acute Pain, and Advanced Technology in Emergency Medicine. He published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in leading international journals such as Annals of Emergency Medicine, Resuscitation, Pediatrics, and JAMA Pediatrics, serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Emergency Medicine, and is the editor-in-chief of the PEM Database (PEMdatabase.org).
