Professor Ayelet Raz-Pasteur is Director of the Department of Internal Medicine A and a senior physician in the Infectious Diseases Unit at Rambam Health Care Campus.
She received her MD with Excellence from the Ruth and Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, in 1995. After completing her internship with Excellence (1997) at Rambam, Professor Raz-Pasteur completed an Internal Medicine residency (2001) there, joined the hospital as a senior physician, and went on to complete a subspecialty in infectious diseases.
During the first wave of the pandemic, Professor Raz-Pasteur headed Rambam’s first dedicated COVID-19 department.
A Clinical Associate Professor in the Technion's Faculty of Medicine, Professor Raz-Pasteur has received multiple Excellent Lecturer awards from the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine (1999, 2005, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2019), as well as the Excellent Employee award from Israel’s Ministry of Health in 2011. In 2019, she was appointed Chairman of the Internal Medicine Circle, in the Technion’s Faculty of Medicine.
Professor Raz-Pasteur’s research deals with understanding the mechanisms associated with hypertension: the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system, and atherosclerosis. She is also pursuing studies related to infectious diseases, with a particular focus on prognostic factors in patients with resistant bacteria infection, the relationship between antibiotics consumption and the development of resistant bacteria, therapeutic options for eradication of resistant bacteria in carriers, and epidemiological studies related to infections in hospitalized patients in Rambam’s departments of plastic surgery and orthopedics. For the last ten years, she has been leading extensive research in the field of heart rate variability.
