Clinical Research Institute at Rambam
|
"People are treated today by protocols classified into one of several large groups based on clinical characteristics, but every patient is an individual so you need to determine individual characteristics and treat them accordingly; then you will have higher diagnostic and therapeutic success rates." Prof. Ora Israel, Director, Department of Nuclear Medicine, RHCC |
The aim of this proposed Center of Excellence is to provide active physicians with a research facility that will enable them to develop and test practical solutions to the clinical challenges they confront daily.
PET/CT imaging devices are one example of a world-class technology recently developed at Rambam. These instruments provide the efficacy of a fused or hybrid image by overlaying a functional slide (which maps the body's physiological processes) with an anatomical slide (which, for example, can pinpoint the site of an inflammation or malignancy). This technological breakthrough has now been adopted by all the leading medical centers in the world, and has improved care for cancer and coronary heart disease patients and enhanced the assessment of life-threatening infectious disease.
In order to deliver more accurate noninvasive and invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and yield superior outcomes on behalf of cancer patients, diabetics and others, next-generation strategic goals for hybrid-imaging technology include developing hardware and software capable of more nuanced readings.
