Transmission Electron Microscope

A transmission electron microscope (TEM) is essential for performing biopsies of kidney, muscle, nerve and respiratory epithelia (membranous linings). Indeed, certain kidney, metabolic, neuromuscular and other diseases cannot be diagnosed, and therefore cannot be treated, without TEM examination. Rambam is the only hospital in Northern Israel with this equipment, but our TEM has reached its life expectancy of 30 years and frequently breaks down. A new, modern TEM is urgently required to serve approximately 300 patients annually from throughout the North.
