Equipment

The new equipment for the Medical Simulation Center includes angiography, endoscopy and laparoscopy simulators, highly realistic mannequins in three sizes (adult, child and infant), and recording and surveillance devices for taping simulated activities.

Simulators
» An ANGIOGRAPHY SIMULATOR transmits virtual-reality vital signs and drug reactions, and will be used by cardiologists, interventional radiologists and vascular surgeons to practice Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) skills.

» An ENDOSCOPY SIMULATOR will hone and assess trainees' motor skills in handling an endoscope (fiber-optic tube), which is routinely used by today's physicians to visually examine the esophagus, stomach, parts of the small intestine, colon and rectum, and to perform biopsies and other procedures using fine instruments inserted through the endoscope.

» A LAPAROSCOPY SIMULATOR will be used by surgeons and interns to practice interventions (e.g., gall bladder surgery) performed via tiny abdominal-wall incisions.

Simulator Mannequins
Mobile, high-tech simulator mannequins that realistically reproduce ECG-rhythms, heart and respiratory sounds and many other clinical symptoms will enable trainees to practice such skills as drainage, injections, intubation for infusions, medication delivery, and resuscitation.
