The proposal calls for purchasing the highest quality diagnostic and therapeutic equipment to include:

» A portable ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY MACHINE for the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), to identify any emergency situation arising after cardiac surgery

» An EPI-AORTIC ECHO that helps detect aortic plaque, thus lowering the risk of a cerebral vascular event

» A FLOW-METER ULTRASOUND MACHINE (a quality control device used after coronary bypass procedures)

» A HEART/LUNG MACHINE required for most open heart procedures, to replace an outdated machine in use by the Department for more than 10 years

» A VITAL SIGNS TELEMETRY SYSTEM for tracking the patient's recovery following an operation
