Prof. Lior Gepstein
Head, Sohnis Family Research Laboratory for
Cardiac Electrophysiology and Regenerative Medicine
Prof. Lior Gepstein completed his MD studies at Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, Technion-Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel, and obtained his PhD from its Department of Biophysics and Physiology. During this period, he was involved in the development of three-dimensional electroanatomical and electomechanical mapping techniques.
Currently, he is Associate Professor at the Bruce Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, heads the Sohnis Family Research Laboratory for Cardiac Electrophysiology and Regenerative Medicine, and is a senior clinical electrophysiologist at Rambam Medical Center.
His research activities are in the areas of basic cardiac and clinical electrophysiology, stem cell biology, early cardiac tissue development, and development of novel gene and cell-based strategies for the treatment of myocardial pathologies. Dr. Gepstein's researchers were among the pioneers in developing unique cardiomyocyte differentiation strategies from human pluripotent stem cells, having important implications for several basic and translational cardiovascular research fields.
