The Pediatric Nephrology Unit provides comprehensive care to children with a wide range of kidney and urinary tract disorders. The unit cares for children hospitalized with severe and chronic kidney diseases, and provides ambulatory services that include consulting, treatment and follow up of children with various kidney disorders.
The unit operates a special clinic for children with different degrees of kidney failure, including terminal kidney failure. It also operates a dialysis unit for children which provides dialysis services (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, hemofiltration) to children with severe kidney failure. In addition, the unit cares for premature and newborn infants with kidney disorders, children with genetic and metabolic diseases of the kidney, and children with congenital abnormalities of the urinary tract.
The unit prepares children for kidney transplants, and cares for children with transplanted kidneys. The unit's activities include performing kidney biopsies. The unit also provides pediatric nephrology consulting services to hospitals in Northern and central Israel.
Treatment of children with kidney diseases involves multiple body systems, which are addressed by the unit's multi-disciplinary team, supported by the most advanced technologies in the field. The team's activities also include extensive academic teaching and a wide range of clinical and basic research projects.
