The Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Unit diagnoses and treats children with infectious diseases of the gastrointestinal system, including Crohn's disease, colitis, congenital and acquired liver disease, and hyperlipidemia – excessive levels of lipids in the blood. The unit aims for early diagnosis and treatment, including supplementary oral or intravenous dietary treatments, to ensure quality of life and normal growth for these children.
The unit comprises a pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition clinic, a liver clinic, and a lipids clinic. Each of these clinics is a center for diagnosis and treatment of additional diseases of the digestive system, such as celiac, gastric bleeding, allergies and food intolerance, stomach pain, constipation, including an exclusive treatment using plasmapheresis for treatment of children with homozygotic familial hypercholesterolemia, liver and pancreatic diseases, and more.
The diagnostics and dietary treatments include, among others, treatment of children with growth disorders, malnutrition, eating disorders, food allergies and chronic diarrhea, as well as dietary treatments for children with special needs.
