The Department of Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Disease in Adults diagnoses and treats congenital heart defects in fetuses in utero, newborns, children and youth, including teens. The department provides follow-up care and treatment of women during the reproductive ages, as well as to adults who have grown up with congenital heart disorders. Its services include nursing and medical evaluation. Supplemental testing, such as ECG at rest and under stress to detect arrhythmias, and a Holter blood pressure monitor for diagnosis and optimization of treatment are a part of the department's services, as well as Echo-Doppler studies for structural and functional evaluation of the heart in patients of all ages.
The department has access to technologies for three-dimensional imaging of the heart, to detect disorders and improve treatment. Furthermore, the department performs interventional procedures that include cardiac catheterization under esophageal echo and x-ray fluoroscopy, which are an alternative to open-heart surgery.
The department also cares for patients hospitalized in other departments of the hospital. In addition, it operates a mobile clinic that serves children and adults with congenital heart diseases in the most distant villages in Northern Israel, as well as other hospitals and pediatric clinics in the northern part of Israel.
Patients from abroad and from the Palestinian Authority are regularly treated by the medical team. Contacts with the patients and their referral physicians are closely maintained.
