Rambam Health Care Campus is the only trauma center in the north of Israel, serving as a referral hospital for 9 general hospitals in northern Israel.
Of the 40,000 trauma patients treated annually in the Emergency Department, almost 4,000 require hospitalization, making Rambam the busiest trauma center in Israel. Twenty percent of these patients are referrals from other hospitals and 38% require immediate surgery. More than 700 are severely injured.
Dr. Moshe Michaelson leads the Trauma Unit team, working with Dr. Eran Tal-Or, Trauma Coordinators, Mrs. Gila Hyams, Mrs. Mirit Barzilay and Mrs. Sigalit Kardstein, and a Social Worker. In addition to its ongoing clinical work, the Trauma Unit is involved in numerous research projects in its field.
The Trauma Unit consists of 3 fully-equipped bays, prepared to treat patients 24 hours a day. The trolley in each bay has a monitor and a ventilator mounted on it, allowing the patient to be moved from one point to another without being disconnected from an essential piece of equipment. The trauma team is comprised of two surgeons and two nurses. All trauma surgeons have successfully completed the ATLS course.
The Trauma Unit staff also runs The Teaching Center for Trauma, Emergency and Mass Casualty Situations at Rambam Health Care Campus, presenting various courses in Israel and abroad.
