The Burn Unit provides treatment for adult and child burn victims hospitalized in four departments: Intensive Care, Plastic Surgery, Pediatric Intensive Care and Pediatric Surgery. The treatments include initial treatment of burns and reconstructive surgery, as well as laser and light treatments following recovery. The unit operates a special clinic for treating burn patients immediately following their release from the hospital and during the reconstructive stages.
The treatment during the acute phase provided at the unit is multidisciplinary, and employs advanced techniques and treatment approaches, such as the use of a special formula for liquid treatments, the newest types of bandaging materials, and more.
Burn patients in the unit are treated by different teams, depending on their age and condition. They are hospitalized in individual rooms according to the extent of their burns, to protect them from contamination and infection. Patients on respirators are first treated in the Intensive Care Unit, and when their independent breathing is restored, are transferred to the Burn Unit.
The Burn Unit policy is that child patients should be in a pediatric environment, and after their release from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, they are transferred to special rooms in the Pediatric Surgery Department at Meyer Children's Hospital on the Rambam Healthcare Campus.
