The Department of Plastic Surgery specializes in reconstructive surgery for congenital defects as well as major injuries resulting from automobile accidents, work-related accidents, etc. Major burn patients are admitted to the department for medical and surgical treatment that begins in the Intensive Care Unit and continues through immediate coverage and early rehabilitation.
The Plastic Surgery Department handles the entire range of treatments in the field of plastic surgery – congenital defects such as cleft lip and palate, hypospadias, reconstructive surgery after extensive injuries, breast reconstruction after mastectomy, and removal of malignant skin lesions, including use of the MOH's technique for the relevant situations. In addition, the department performs reconstructive microsurgery in collaboration with other hospital departments, including the Ear Nose and Throat, Oral and Maxillofacial and Orthopedics departments.
The department belongs to the Surgery Division and is affiliated with the Technion Faculty of Medicine. The department also treats children hospitalized in the Pediatric Surgery Department, in the best possible environment for them.
In addition to the ongoing plastic surgery activities, the department specializes in treatment of severe burns and wounds that resist healing, and for this purpose, maintains an expert nursing clinic where advanced dressing materials and vacuum (VAC) techniques are employed. The department also operates a support group for burn patients.
The department operates a unique clinic that deals with aesthetic medicine, including all types of laser treatments, with the advantage of performing these procedures within the safe surrounding of a large and experienced medical center. Aesthetic procedures include face, nose and eyelids, liposuction, breast reduction and augmentation, abdominoplasty, peeling and scar improvement. A broad range of skin expander and skin stretching methods are available for aesthetic and reconstructive procedures.
