The Department of Orthopedics “A” provides outpatient consultation and ward surgical treatment, both urgent and elective, for a wide range of musculoskeletal disorders. As part of a tertiary care hospital, the department has a long tradition of up-to-date treatment for musculoskeletal traumatology, dealing with all kinds of accidents from simple to severe injuries of limbs and spine, with judicious use of all modern types of fixators, including Ilizarov external fixation.
Surgical procedures are done with conventional or mini-invasive incision techniques, using the most advanced technologies available in every field. These include reconstructive joint surgery, including total joint arthroplasty, reconstruction of limb deformities, treatment of sports injuries, congenital developmental disorders, tumors of the musculoskeletal system, bone infections and bone tumors, and spine and hand surgery.
The department has outpatient clinics within and outside the hospital. It is a teaching unit of the Technion Faculty of Medicine, with a comprehensive teaching facility for medical students and nurses. The department is also recognized by the Israeli Scientific Council for complete training of residents in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology. A major activity of the department is a basic research program within the framework of the Institute on Research of Bone Healing, both within the department and in direct cooperation with the Technion Faculty of Engineering.
