Michael Soudry MD

The Orthopedic Surgery Section at Rambam Healthcare Campus, headed by Professor Michael Soudry, includes under its auspices various specialized orthopedic units and services: Pediatric Orthopedics, Hand Surgery, Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction, Arthroscopic and Sport, Shoulder, Spine, Orthopedic Oncology and Hip Services. Within the framework of the various subspecialties, a wide range of orthopedic and musculoskeletal pathologies and injuries are treated in the field of traumatology: war injuries, home accidents, occupational accidents, old age injuries and elective surgery: total joint arthroplasty, revision arthroplasty surgery, arthroscopic surgery, sports injuries and growth disturbance in the musculoskeletal system.

The Orthopedic Surgery Section conducts an extensive teaching program in conjunction with the Technion Faculty of Medicine, training orthopedic residents and participating in public education in the field of the musculoskeletal system. The division is also involved in basic and clinical research programs, some in cooperation with departments of the Rambam Health Care Campus and the Technion Israel Institute of Technology. Recently an Institute on Research of Bone Healing was opened under the direction of Dr. Dina Levinson.

In recent years, the Orthopedic Surgery Section has been the focus of surgical care at the Rambam Health Care Campus. The constant stream of major military and civilian trauma cases has afforded us the opportunity to gain extensive experience in the field of the musculoskeletal system.

The uniqueness of our position as Northern Israel’s Level One Trauma Center, along with the location and traditions of Rambam Medical Center in providing medical services to those suffering from road and industrial accidents, and notably during the chronic, on-going Middle East conflict, has enabled a continuity of treatment measures to the injured from the first hours after the traumatic incident through the rehabilitation period, according to accepted protocols, all within our own medical center.

In the last Lebanon war, most severe war injuries were directed and treated at Rambam Health Care Campus, and the Orthopedic Surgery Section operated more than 60% of the referred cases. Essential adaptation to modern medicine necessitated establishing an Orthopedic Surgery Section coordinating all subspecialties. The reorganization encompasses all related orthopedic areas, including hospitalization wards, emergency care, outpatient clinics and medical and nursing approaches towards the achievement of our primary goal: the care and well being of the patient with musculoskeletal problems.
