The Neurology Department diagnoses and treats diseases of the nervous system, including disorders of the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, neuro-muscular junction and muscle. The treatments also include a specialized emergency therapy for stroke patients using TPA for clot-dissolving during the first 3 hour period following the stroke.
The department has a comprehensive system for diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy, including video-EEG, a Vagal-pacer Clinic, a clinic for movement disorders, which includes the newest and most advanced drug treatments, and support groups for patients and their families. The department operates an advanced EMG laboratory which performs, among others, tests on individual muscle fibers, sphincter muscles, vocal cords and respiratory muscles, as well as special tests for children. The department works in close cooperation with the units of Cognitive Neurology, Pain relief and Neuro-radiology.
The department has a multi-disciplinary staff, with extensive experience in the different neurology fields and expertise in employing the most advanced neurology technologies.
The department physicians provide consultations for patients in other hospital departments, conduct basic and clinical research, and teach medical and nursing students.
