As one of the five Internal Medicine Departments in Rambam Healthcare Campus, The Department of Internal Medicine B treats a wide range of internal medical disorders. Internal medicine is one of the largest areas of specialization in medicine and it includes, among others, heart diseases, congestive heart failure, infectious diseases including in the gastrointestinal tract, as well monitoring of drug response, side effects of drugs and interactions between drugs (pharmacoepidemiology), and more.
The department team is comprised mainly of registered nurses with academic degrees and extensive experience in treating severely ill patients requiring intensive, full-time care.
The department is mainly a teaching department, training medical students from the Technion Faculty of Medicine and nursing students from the University of Haifa. It is involved in several research projects and collaborates intensively with the Pain Relief Clinic and the Congestive Heart Failure Clinic.
The department was selected to carry out the "Case Management" project, aimed to ensure that patients receive optimal care and to increase their level of satisfaction.
